Broken part before having oven a year

I recently purchased a new custom home build. My Bosch oven was installed (during the build) and the fan broke right before having this oven for a year. This is the reason for 4 Star otherwise I would have given it a 5. Warranty department was super nice and easy to work with to get my oven fixed around the holiday season. I love Bosch and all my appliances in my home are Bosch. Happy Customer overall :)

I could not be happier with my new Bosch series 500 wall oven. From roasting vegetables, to making pizza and baking loaves of sourdough, this oven does it all. It is extremly user friendly and I particularly appreciate being able to control the temperature with knobs which a specific feature I was loking for.

There were a couple of things I assumed were standard on ovens, so did not think to ask prior to purchasing this oven. The convection fan always runs when the oven is on and does not turn off when the door is opened. This results in a blast of very hot steam in my face. This also drastically drops the oven temperature as all the hot air is blown out. I have never used a convection oven - professional or home where the fan does not shut off when the door is opened. The other problem is the temperature display only shows the chosen temp. setting. Every other oven I had had shows the actrual temperature as the oven preheats. There is no way to know what the temp is. This coupled with the fan that does not turn off makes this oven useless for baking. This was a huge waste of money.

Had to replace our Frigidaire oven after 20 yrs. This Bosch oven fit perfectly in our cabinet and was easy to install by myself. The wife loves the dials but wishes the lettering were bigger and bolder to make it easier to read. The timer function is not user friendly and during preheating it would be nice if the temp gauge would progress toward the desired temp so you have an idea how much longer before it's ready. Thus allowing one to plan timing of other cooking items. Center of oven cooks hotter than perimeter area.

Nice, However Slightly Disappointed

We actually purchased two of these ovens for our kitchen. The controls are easy and uncomplicated which is good. We felt that it takes the oven a long time to preheat. Another disappointment was that the oven doesn't show the temperature as it preheats. It cooks things well.

Power Outage - Door Locks

On two occasions, the power has went out and the door has locked creating an error code. This recently happened on Super Bowl day of all days. This requires a technician to drill a hole in the door and replace it, at a cost of more than a new stove. Because its happened a second time and that its outside of warranty, they're asking us to cover the cost. In short, power outages, a normal thing - result in a locked stove (forbid something was in there) and out of pocket cost. The level of obsolescences is what's disconcerting here.

This takes FOREVER to preheat, 30+ mins to get to 350. I'm not even sure if it's broken, since others have complained about the same thing. Is it designed to work poorly, or is the build quality so poor that there are a bunch of units with this issue?

I opted for just an oven. I try to keep things simple. This is my second Bosch oven. It is easy to use with the large knobs and looks great in the kitchen. As a senior with hearing issues, I wish the timer sound was louder like my old oven. It seems to be running louder than the old too. Overall a good oven.

I was stuck with this model as part of a standard builder package, and couldn't believe it did not even have a convection function or other basic options. Control touch pads are not consistent, warm up takes a long time. But worst of all is the quality of the stainless steel... already rusted front control panel after two years! And as a result the control decals have rubbed off from attempts to clean it. It's as if the door and upper control panel are two different grades of stainless!

Had to buy in a hurry!

I don't like having to make big purchases in a hurry but our old Bosch single wall oven died on Palm Sunday while I was cooking a rib roast. I also didn't want to spend a lot of money since our house is for sale. We picked this one as the price was right, the dealer had one in stock and the installer could come out relatively quickly. Now that we have used it several times, I'm amazed by how much our old oven had deteriorated over time (19 years) as this one is spot on with heat. The fan in our old oven was loud and ran the whole time the oven was on and until it had cooled down. This one doesn't do that! It's perfect as we have open concept kitchen/dining/living so now hubby can watch TV while I cook. This oven is also much bigger than my old one and the options are easier to figure out. I do miss my pull out shelf (I would buy a new one for this oven if I won the sweepstakes) and the clock goes off when the oven is running. But, overall, we are very pleased with this purchase, especially since we didn't do any looking around before buying. We just went with the Bosch name and the reputation of the vendor.
